Busy music weekend in Lilongwe
Traditionally, weekends which coincide with the end of the month are usually packed with entertainment events and this weekend is no exception.
Fun-seekers will be spoilt for choice as a number of notable events have been lined up across the four cities starting from Friday to Sunday. Of all the places, the Capital City Lilongwe appears to be the busiest on paper.
Music lovers in Lilongwe are set for a busy weekend, with Malawian musician Skeffa Chimoto, Nigerian gospel singer Adah Ehi, Zambian artist Pompi and South African duo Jazzworx and Thukuthela scheduled to perform at different venues.
Chimoto and his Real Sounds Band will open the weekend’s live entertainment programme today at 6th Lounge while Ehi and Pompi will perform at Theresa Phondo’s concert on Saturday.
The weekend will close on Sunday with a performance by Jazzworx and Thukuthela at High Society, adding to the range of local and international acts on offer.
The shows cater to different musical tastes, from Chimoto’s popular local hits to gospel music and the South African duo’s sound which has been attracting attention among Malawian music lovers.
At 6th Lounge, the show, supported by Entertainers Promotion, is expected to give patrons an opportunity to enjoy Chimoto’s music in a live setting.

The venue has in the past months hosted several local music heavyweights including Black Missionaries, Anthony Makondetsa, Lawi, Kell Kay, Zeze Kingston and Praise Umali.
In an interview, 6th Lounge manager Marcus Mbidzi said today’s show is part of efforts to bring established musicians closer to audiences in Matchansi and surrounding areas.
“After hosting Afro-soul, Amapiano and reggae giants, we want to continue bringing entertainment closer to the people. This Friday we host the Jamming Machine himself, Skeffa Chimoto,” he said.
Phondo’s concert featuring Ehi and Pompi is expected to combine music with a message of faith, with the Malawian singer saying the event aims to give audiences a distinctive experience.
…Blantyre, Zomba get their share
We are excited and ready to bring something unique and new to the audiences in Lilongwe and Malawi in general,” she said.
On Sunday, High Society will host Jazzworx and Thukuthela for the fourth edition of its event.
According to one of the organisers and co-owner of the event, Nathan Tunes the duo will be at the event in their capacity as musicians and DJs saying the format is a unique addition to the event, particularly given their popularity among local audiences.
He said the previous three editions featured local and international artists to give music lovers a relaxed place where they also enjoy performances.
“It is an event where we want people to enjoy dressing up, looking forward to having a good time and provide them with a relaxed environment in which they ca enjoy performances from different musicians,” said Nathan Tunes.
In Blantyre, Breast Cancer Care Foundation will tomorrow host a BreasFest under the theme ‘Good vibes for a good cause’ to raise breast cancer awareness and raise funds towards activities for the October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The event will be headlined by musician Find Codi and will take place at Red Gatsro Pub.
In an interview, one of the organisers Tabitha Kalaitzis said the event will be a day of fun, music and community spirit with a purpose.
“Beyond the entertainment, the event carries an important message: raising awareness and supporting access to breast cancer care. Every contribution, conversation and show of support helps bring greater attention to the needs of people affected by breast cancer and the services available to them,” she said.
On her part, Find Codi said it feels rewarding to use her passion for music to support such an important cause.
“I am deeply honoured to be part of this remarkable milestone to contribute in my own way to a cause that brings hope, awareness and support to those affected by breast cancer. The event plays a vital role in raising awareness and educating individuals about breast cancer effects and managing one’s well-being,” she said.
Malawi Sun Hotel will tomorrow host the The Face of Malawi Sun Hotel Grand Finale. The pageant is meant to select an individual who will act as its brand face. Over ten models are expected to walk down the carpet for the coveted accolade.
